The issue that most have with these is that stylistically-they don't fit the tone or the culture you are trying to build. You also don't know if they are legally compliant.
Some consultants and attorneys will write a custom handbook for you and typically charge by the hour. How it works is that you will have a consultation about what type of handbook fits your needs. You will then be presented with a first draft and will be expected to make all revisions and fill in the blanks. This typically results in lots of back and forth in emails or phone calls. Several revisions later, you have a handbook that took far more time and money than you expected.
